2010 Audi S4

October 29th, 2008 Comments off

audis4 I was excited to see the initial reports that Audi would go back to forced induction on the S4.  Having had a V8 S4 I can attest to the fact that it was heavy and bulky, but boy do I miss the sweet sound of the V8 burbling thru my Milltek exhaust.  It looks like Audi is moving towards a slightly lighter car with the supercharged V6.  But one thing they haven’t changed (according to Car and Driver) is the barely distinguished look between the A4 and the S4.  That’s a strong negative for me, I’d like to see some more major visual differences between the two.  I’m sure the forthcoming RS4 will be a bit more differentiated but Audi is much more reserved than BMW when it comes to visual differentiation with the motorsport cars.

The new S4 is still pretty good looking, can’t wait to see one in person next year.

BunsenTech Dynolicious for iPhone – TechnoRide

July 29th, 2008 Comments off

dyno I read about this one-step-better-than-a-butt-dyno application available for the iPhone.  Definitely interesting, I’m going to buy it and will post a review later.  I was thinking about getting one of those G-Tech’s at one point but decided against because I read a few people that had trouble with the same car that I have.

BMW 335i

October 7th, 2007 Comments off

I expected to have most of the modifications done to my 335i by now but it’s taken a bit longer than expected. Since I posted last, I’ve gotten the suspension dialed in where I want it: raised the ride height a bit as well as stiffened up the compression/rebound on the dampers. I had a Kerscher Spirit front bumper and splitter installed as well as a rear spoiler (OEM clone). I’m still missing the tow hook cover for the front end. I actually got one painted and ready to go and then managed to push the little cover right thru the hole and it’s sitting inside the bumper now! I’ve got to get that taken care of and also getting the LUX angel eyes installed sometime soon. I’ll take some before and after pictures of the angel eye LED replacements as soon as I get the remaining work done. I used Daniel Cook over at Transparent Bra again to get a clear bra put on the front end to keep things neat and tidy!

BMW M3 Sedan

October 7th, 2007 Comments off

m3sedan Most of the car mags and blogs picked up the news this weekend that the M3 sedan has been officially announced.  Looks like it carries over most of the look and engine/suspension of the M3 coupe.  I have to say I like the look of the coupe better.  I expected a slightly more aggressive look for the M3 sedan, but who can really tell till you see it in person.  Seems like the E90 335i with some aftermarket tuning will be neck and neck with the M3 though.  Wonder if that will put a dent in M3 sedan sales (what a shame) though there is the obvious name cache of having an M badge 🙂

I may have gotten too aggressive on the rear tire width 🙂

New car is here!

September 4th, 2007 1 comment

I got my BMW 335i a few weeks back.  As I said before, I used CarsDirect and couldn’t be happier.

The BMW 335i is an amazing machine!  So far, I’d say it compares quite favorably to my previous Audi S4.  Though the BMW’s engine is rated lower for HP and Torque, it’s every bit as fast especially as it’s lighter.  It’s taking a bit to get used to driving RWD again since I had Quattro for the last three years.

And, I still have the modding bug.  I started with new rims and KW coilovers.  I’ll be putting on a Kerscher front end sometime soon.  I haven’t had a chance to take good pictures yet but will do so soon.  Till then here are some teasers.

CarsDirect – love it

August 20th, 2007 Comments off

carsdirect I have two words about CarsDirect.com: very happy. As someone who worries about customer experience, I can honestly say that the best car buying experience I’ve ever had was with CarsDirect. From the initial conversation with one of their specialists, to going back and forth to find the “right” car, all the way thru the financial aspects I couldn’t give them more praise. The process is streamlined, you’re never left waiting in a cube while your sales rep goes to “talk to their manager” etc.

Professional, direct, good follow thru and ultimately, a satisfying experience as a customer. Oh yes, and excellent prices that were probably better than what I could negotiate at a dealer!

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

August 10th, 2007 Comments off

C63 AMG The Audi RS4 has been sitting pretty as the fastest and best handling mid-size sports sedan for about a year now.  Now two new competitors are coming to the party:  the new BMW M3 and the Mercedes C63.  The Mercedes seems like quite the incredible machine with a ridiculously large engine.  I ran across an interesting review from Top Gear that raised my eyebrows:

First, some numbers. This is the same 6.2-litre, normally aspirated V8 we’ve enjoyed in other monster Mercs, including the CL63 AMG.
In this level of tune, it develops 457bhp, comfortably eclipsing the new M3’s 420bhp. Called the M156, it’s tunable to 580bhp with relative ease, and AMG engineers describe it as ‘unstressed’ at 457bhp. This is one the world’s great engines.

Tunable to 580 bhp??  I can’t wait to see what the automotive aftermarket will do with the C63 if there is that much headroom left in the engine.  Obviously it’ll be expensive to get that extra hp, but the mind reels at the possibilities.

I’ve got a new car coming, more details after it arrives.  And no it’s not an RS4, M3 or C63 😉

Mercedes ML63 AMG

June 27th, 2007 Comments off

It’s a sad day when a Mercedes SUV runs faster than an Audi RS4 Avant.  Who knows if the RS4 guys is a good driver or not, but he got schooled by the ML63 which had three passengers in it.  Ah well . . .
