The future of batteries

MIT Biomolecular LabBatteries seem to be the one technology that is evolving far slower that it’s compadres: processing power, storage density and display cost per inch. I read an article in Popular Science (not available online yet) that discussed a team at MIT that is using viruses to “build scaffolds” that create incredibly lightweight, yet more energy dense batteries. I’m sure this is far from being commercialized but could be the first giant leap in energy storage technology in a long time. I believe that fuel cells will have to prove themselves in the commercial sector before they penetrate the mass consumer market.
